Introduction

Sumire (スミレ, Sumire) is the Family's fortune teller and a supporting character in Arcana Famiglia -La storia della Arcana Famiglia-.

Appearance[]

Sumire is a tall woman with straight, knee-length black hair with neat square bangs reaching just above her grayish violet eyes. On the side of her head, she wears a white flower paired with a red ribbon and yellow lace. Her nails are very long, and are painted a dark red, almost black. She also wears visible makeup.

Sumire is usually seen donning a white kimono with inner fabric colored black, sashed by a large patterned dark gray belt, and black lace-up boots. She wear a red ribbon choker around her neck. Her Stigmata is located on her left palm.

Personality[]

Sumire comforts Nova.

Sumire is a very elegant and polite woman who acts graceful in anything she does. She deeply loves her family, willing to sacrifice herself for Mondo, and cares for Felicità very much. That being said, she also possesses a stricter side, raising her daughter to be a strong person who does not wait around to be saved by other.

While Sumire can joke, tease others and act casually[2], she is very serious when the situation demands it and scolds others if they do something foolish. She partly blames herself for ruining Nova's childhood[2].

Abilities[]

Arcana[]

Judgement Arcana

Judgement (審判, Shinpan, Il Giudizio) is the 20th card in the Tarocco. The Stigmata is located on her left palm. Its power was originally related to healing, but it gained an additional ability to interpret the Tarocco's will after Felicità used the Wheel of Fortune[3][4].

  • Culla Protezione (The Cradle of Protection): This ability is able to heal the target from an illness or a wound. It was used on Mondo, causing the Arcana to go berserk[5].
  • Nehanjakujou (Enlightement leads to serenity): Sumire's unknown ability.

Other abilities[]

Fortune telling: Sumire possesses fortune telling abilities. She was able to sense Mondo's powers when she first met him; her powers also allowed her to befriend Giovanna upon their meeting on Regalo.

Judge: Perhaps related to her Arcana, Sumire helps referee competitions in the Family.

Fan fighting: Sumire is shown to be skilled in fighting with using her iron fan. She uses it to block attacks, as well as to hit her opponents.

Relationships[]

Mondo: Her husband. She is charmed by his power and charisma; the two often skip meals with the other members in order to eat in their room while flirting with each other. However, Mondo's overbearing personality is often a cause of headaches for Sumire and she has no restraint in scolding him whenever he fools around. Mondo calls Sumire "Madame Butterfly", which is probably a reference to the Italian opera "Madame Butterfly" by Giacomo Puccini.

Felicità: Her daughter. Sumire has never been one to spoil Felicità or indulge her, giving her a strict upbringing[6], such as instructing her not to rely on others too much. However, this was mainly done out of love and concern, and Sumire is shown to support Felicità whenever she is troubled. She also does as much as possible to protect her daughter from harm, and is greatly distressed when something bad happens to her.

Nova: Sumire appears to act as Nova's substitute mother, blaming herself from taking away his childhood. She supports him in overcoming his troubles and encourages him to try to propose to Felicità again.

Jolly: She dislikes him and thinks he used to be "cuter" back when he followed Mondo along to Giappone[7].
